Apprenticeship Fair Dublin North West Area Partnership
Apprenticeship Fair Dublin North West Area Partnership - 22nd & 23rd November 2017
Dublin North West Area Partnership hosted two Apprenticeship Fairs during European Vocational Skills week on Wednesday 22nd November and Thursday 23rd November. The first fair took place in Finglas Youth Resource Centre on Wednesday and the second in the atrium of Ballymun Civic Offices on Thursday. The fairs aimed to create awareness of apprenticeship opportunities and the expansion of apprenticeship options into non traditional areas. Attendees had the chance to meet with apprentices, employers and educational organisations. Local schools, training centres and Youthreaches were visited prior to the event to explain the apprenticeship process and the fairs also welcomed clients of the DNWAP Local Employment Services in Finglas and Cabra, Ballymun Jobs Club and the public.
Now in it’s second year the DNWAP Apprenticeship Fair built on the success of last year to expand to two locations. The fairs recognise the opportunities apprenticeships offer in our recovering economy as well as the new apprenticeships on offer. There are now 34 apprenticeships on offer with a further 23 in development in diverse industries such as Finance and Hospitality in addition to the traditional areas of Construction, Electrical and Engineering . Areas in development include IT, Logistics and Retail. More information can be found on apprenticeship.ie. Apprenticeships offer opportunities to gain qualifications for those who many not be in a position to pursue full time programmes through the CAO.
The Fairs were a success with approx. 300 people in attendance each day and over twenty exhibitors. One attendee described the fair as ‘very informative, found quite a lot of useful info’, other comments included ‘good to see people care about blue collar’.
The DNWAP Apprenticeship Fair was a collaborative project between Dublin North West Area Partnership, Finglas Youth Resource Centre , Ballymun Jobs Centre and Ballymun Regional Youth Resource.
