Work Based Learning Apprenticeship Briefing8 September 2017
Over 100 industry and education delegates from Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary attended an information briefing organised by Mid-West Regional Skills on the expanding range of apprenticeships now on offer to employers. The briefing which took place in the Radisson Hotel Limerick, heard from a number of speakers including Joe Leddin (Regional Skills Manager) Dr. Mary-Liz Trant (Solas) Eimear Brophy (Chairperson of MW Regional Skills Forum) and John Gleeson, Operations Manager GM.
Delegates received an overview of future labour market trends, the changing eligibility criteria for apprenticeships as a route to acquire skilled talent and the views from an employers perspective on the positive benefits to recruiting suitable apprentices on a work based learning model.
A steering group of employers and educational representatives will now be established to identify how best employers can engage in availing of the apprenticeship model to both upskill existing employees while simultaneously attracting new talent.
