Your Future.Your Skills. launching this week, is an innovative initiative with the purpose of recognising the skills and experience of those employed and recently unemployed in the Irish Hospitality Industry. Your Future.Your Skills is a collaborative project between lead partner Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board and Dublin and Dun Laoghaire ETB, Kilkenny and Carlow ETB and City and Guilds. The Global Certification allows those working in hospitality to gain a professional recognition for their skills and experience against an international benchmark, in the form of a digital badge.

Digital Badges are the latest technology in skills certification, they provide a secure way to showcase achievements online, through a single click. The Global Certification is fully funded by Solas. There is no cost to the applicant. Eileen Cullen, Area Training Manager for KWETB says ‘We recognise that the Hospitality sector has been significantly hit by the Covid-19 global health crisis. This sector is a pillar of the Irish economy. We would like to support the people who make up this important sector, enabling them to achieve a certification of the skills they have worked hard to achieve’. To apply simply visit www.yourfutureyourskills.ie, choose the digital badge you would like to apply for and we will guide you through the rest. Your Future. Your Skills. is supported by Fáilte Ireland and the Irish Hotels Federation.

NALA Covid-19 supports

https://www.nala.ie/covid-19-supports/

Many people are feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information around COVID-19 but for the one in six adults (521,000) with unmet literacy and numeracy needs in Ireland, it is more challenging. NALA is focussing on supporting these adults during this time with:

 1

Freephone support line 1 800 20 20 65 to talk to adults about brushing up their reading, writing and digital skills. We also help with reading and understanding health information, particularly around COVID-19.

The public can also Freetext LEARN to 50050 and we will call them back.

We are open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm.

2

Distance learning service with tutors working with adults over the telephone to brush up on their literacy, numeracy or digital skills. It is free and confidential. We also have an online interactive website where you can practise your skills and work towards a QQI Certificate - https://courses.nala.ie/

3

Developing and promoting a list of COVID-19 words and terms explained in plain English. You can also download this here. We are sharing this list with learners, education and community services, HSE, the Department of Health, gov.ie, health services and others in the fight against COVID-19. Please feel free to link to it or use the explanations.
