Building Talent Pipelines for Employers, Informing Career Pathways for Apprentices

Click here to download the App

The Mid-West Regional Skills Fora will launch a new apprenticeship app on Tuesday 25th September at the Mid-West Career Guidance event in the UL Sports Arena. The objective of the App is to assist future apprentices in deciding their career pathways while helping employers to identify and build new talent pipelines.

Listed across industry sectors will be the contact names and details of companies that are approved registered employers with both Limerick and Clare and Tipperary Education Training Boards.

The App will prove extremely informative to post primary senior cycle students, parents, guidance counsellors and those looking to return to the workplace or career changers. The apprenticeship landscape has changed significantly in recent years with several new apprenticeship programmes launched in ICT, Finance, Insurance, Manufacturing and Hospitality as part of Generation Apprenticeship development.

These new apprenticeships are in addition to over 36 existing programmes in traditional craft- based sectors including construction and engineering industries. Unemployment now stands close to 5% in the Mid-West region and talent development and talent acquisition is now the number one priority for companies.

By uploading their apprenticeship vacancies at no cost, the App presents a valuable opportunity for employers together with the expansion of apprenticeship programmes to influence and shape the learning and upskilling of existing and future employees.

The earn and learn based apprenticeship programmes are industry led in partnership with local education and training providers and higher education colleges. Most programmes are based over a minimum of 2 years to include practical work- based learning matched with off the job teaching.

The Mid-West region has played a pivotal role in the rollout of new apprenticeships in manufacturing, aviation, engineering and hospitality sectors with several new programmes currently in development.

The Government Action Plan for Apprenticeships plans to double the number of apprenticeship programmes to over 60 and increase the number of apprentices to 30,000 by 2020. Career options can be difficult to make, and the new App will help ensure people are fully informed prior to making decisions on their future education and training pathway.

More information on the complete range of programmes is available by clicking here and for companies looking to upload their details on the App they can contact the regional skills forum manager.
