The North West Regional Skills Forum in collaboration with Leitrim LEO hosted a very successful information evening for Leitrim employers on Wednesday March 21st. The event took place in the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB training centre in Carrick on Shannon where over 30 local employer representatives attended and learned about the various supports available to employers in relation to training for existing staff, funding for recruitment, new business start-up support, graduate recruitment and much more.

Mr. Peter Egan – Director of Further Education and Training at MSL ETB welcomed the large crowd in attendance  and along with Sean Burke – the Area manager in MSL ETB provided an overview of the wide range of services MSL ETB provides to local employers. Joe Lowe – Head of the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) in Leitrim promoted the various ways the LEO can support smaller employers in the area. Mr. Niall McEvoy – Head of Innovation in IT Sligo described the significant support available to employers in the region from IT Sligo in relation to research, innovation, lifelong learning, recruitment of graduates and placements. A number of other employer support bodies including Intreo, Skillnets, Carrick Chamber, Enterprise Ireland, Western Development Commission and the National Learning Network were in attendance.

The North West Regional Skills Forum Manager – Dr. Oran Doherty described the event as a “a major success as it presented employers with an unique opportunity to learn more about the significant support available to them and allow employers the chance to speak to the various organisations that can assist them with training, funding, recruitment, research and business development”. The feedback from employers has been extremely positive and it is planned that this event will become an annual event.
