Thank you to all who participated in and attended Engage'17.  This was the first event of it’s kind in the west where the Education and Training Institutions co created an opportunity to give career direction to adults in transition either seeking further education and training or a change in job role.  Over 250 people attended on the day to receive career consultation, advice on different industry sectors and  information on access to further education and training.  A very useful and successful event – thank you to all.

The morning opened with an introduction to the West Regional Skills Forum by Claire Hurley West Regional Skills Forum Manager.  This was followed by a talk from Josephine Walsh, Head of the Career Development Centre of NUI Galway who gave thoughts on how to ‘Focus on you’ when commencing a career change Focus On You .pdf (size 1.2 MB)  Nuala McGuinn then spoke of Education Pathways Education Pathways.pdf (size 2.4 MB) followed by Yvonne Moran Apprenticeship Training Officer with GRETB who gave a comprehensive view on updates to apprenticeships

Representatives from the following employment areas attended  Engage ‘17 to provide advice on career options in these sectors. The focus was on employability; job categories and what specific skill sets these sectors are seeking from prospective employees

Representatives from GMIT, GTI, GRETB, NUI Galway, Department of Social Welfare and Access Centre NUI Galway were available to discuss access to further education, apprenticeships and support options for those who wish to return to further education and training.
