Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board 

The GRETB Training Centre is one of the largest training facilities in the West of Ireland it is located in Mervue, Galway.  GRETB Training Centre provides an excellent range of full-time Day Courses, Evening Courses, Apprenticeships, Community Training Programmes, Blended Learning. 

Course options include programmes providing the necessary technical and generic skills required to access employment in the market place. Courses are accredited by various Accreditation Bodies including QQI, City & Guilds, Microsoft, Cisco and other industry recognised accreditation. All courses have a strong work placement element. The duration of training can vary ranging from 7 to 50 weeks. Our day courses are delivered on a full-time basis throughout the year.

Day Courses include: Information Technology, Engineering, Cleanroom & Packaging Operations, Quality Assurance HGV Rigid and Artic, Blended Courses, Bus Driving, Traineeships, Sports & Recreation, Finance & Administration, Logistics and many more.

Apprenticeships:   Apprenticeship is the recognised means by which people are trained to become craftspeople in Ireland. SOLAS has statutory responsibility for the management of the Apprenticeship programme. For counties Galway and Roscommon, the GRETB have responsibility for administering the programme. There are currently 27 designated crafts within the Standards Based Apprenticeship System.

Evening/Weekend Courses:  GRETB Training Centre evening and weekend courses are delivered in the GRETB Training Centre or in a facility in Roscommon. Evening/ Weekend courses are available to fee paying clients who are employed and wish to upskill for personal and professional development and also to unemployed clients through the local DSP/Intreo Office. Community Training Programmes: 

Local Training Initatives:  The LTI project-based training and work experience programmes is carried out in the local community and run by local community groups throughout Galway and Roscommon. LTI's support many organisations engaged in a wide range of initiatives including genealogy, environmental, heritage, tourism, theatre, sports, and coaching. Some projects are targeted at specific groups in society.

Community Training Centres

Community Training Centres are an independent community-based organisation, catering for the training and employment needs of early school leavers, primarily aged between 16 and 21. Examples of programmes offered include employability skills, personal and social employment skills and science skills.



Specialist Training Programmes

STP programmes in Galway and Roscommon are delivered to people with disabilities who may require more intensive support. The features of this specialist vocational training include: longer duration; adapted equipment; transport arrangements; enhanced programme content.

The training centre facilities consists of:

  • State of the art cleanroom facilities and classroom.
  • 2 fully equipped Welding workshops.
  • State of the art Electrical Instrumentation workshops.
  • Fully equipped workshops for Apprenticeship classes in Carpentry & Joinery, Electrical and Motor.
